A Peranakan speciality made up of fish meat and spices. Otak-otak is made by mixing mackerel fish paste with mixture of chilli paste, spices, garlic and coconut milk. Chunky fish meat is used to ensure a more robust taste. Commonly used in dishes like nasi lemak, it can be steamed or grilled/bbq.
